AUGUST 9, 2016

REGULAR MEETING OF

THE MELVIN VILLAGE BOARD

The meeting was brought to order by President Harold Forbes with the Pledge to the Flag @ 7:03 PM. Village Clerk Lynn Duke gave a short prayer. Those present beside President Forbes and Clerk Duke were: Trustees Vern Shapland, Wm Curtis, Chris Dawson Glen Netherton, and Jimmy Moore. Also present were Village Maintenance Supervisor Larry Boundy and Ford County Sheriff Mark Doran and guests Angel Benninger, Dennis Manson and Jim Cook.

Minutes from the previous meeting were read by Clerk Duke. Hearing no corrections or additions, Vern Shapland made a motion to accept the minutes as presented, seconded by Chris Dawson. Vote: 5-yes, o-no. MC.

Guests spoke first::

*Jim Cook was here as an observer and to check to see if things were okay with his property. Chris Dawson said he still intended to help Mr. Cook with wood and etc.

*Sheriff Doran told that his deputies are here on a regular basis. Things in Melvin have been going pretty good at this time.

*Dennis Manson and Angel Benninger were here in observance. Angel was asked to take a seat in Brian Grady’s place as he has handed in his resignation. She will be sworn in at the next meeting to replace Brian.

Village Maintenance Reports: Larry Boundy/Alan Thackeray

Larry:

*Said new truck should be in the 11th or 12th.

*Old mower gave out and Larry got some estimates from John Deere for a new one. The favored one is a 48 inch deck costing $3300.00 Harold will go out and look at it.

*Approved streets were oiled and chipped.

No Alan.

Treasurer’s Report: Judy Schall

Presentation of bills in need of payment. After looking over the list, Chris Dawson made the motion to pay the bills, seconded by Wm. Curtis. Roll Call Vote: V. Shapland-yes, J. Moore-yes, G. Netherton-yes, W. Curtis, yes, and C. Dawson-yes. MC.

Streets, Alleys, Water, Drainage, Trees: Jimmy Moore/Glen Netherton

*A bid to cut 10 trees was taken from John Robiski at a cost of $9125.00. This would include stump grinding and disposal. Glen Netherton made the motion to accept the bid, seconded by Chris Dawson. Roll Call vote: J. Moore-yes, C. Dawson-yes, G. Netherton-yes, V. Shapland-yes and W. Curtis-yes. MC.

*Att. Sorensen has sent a letter to Eric Christiansen

Old Business:

New Business:

*President Forbes talked to Board about purchasing the Doris Toreson property at a cost of $645.00 to keep it out of wrong hands. After discussion, Wm Curtis made the motion to purchase, seconded by G. Netherton. Roll Call Vote with 4-yes and 1 abstaining. MC. This would be for the property only; the trailer must be taken away. Will discuss this at a later meeting.

*Vern Shapland made a motion that we see if we can get the new truck at a 0 % interest, if not we will pay for it outright. The second came from Chris Dawson. Roll Call Vote: J. Moore-yes, V. Shapland-yes, G. Netherton-yes, W. Curtis-yes, C. Dawson-yes. MC.

*Chris Dawson Made a motion to see about 0% financing for the new mower, if not buying it outright, seconded by Glen Netherton. Roll Call vote: C. Dawson-yes, W. Curtis-yes, G. Netherton-yes, V. Shapland-yes, and J. Moore-yes. MC.

Hearing no other business, Glen Netherton made the motion to adjourn, seconded by Chris Dawson. Vote: 5-yes, 0-no. MC.
